Golf Balls – Choosing the Right Powerful ball

Choosing the right golf ball is as important as choosing the correct Club. All golf balls are not made the same. Lets talk about a few to see the difference in the building and choosing of the right Golf Ball.

Golf Balls Design and how they differ and effect your game

When selecting a golf ball you are going to have to look at the way you play golf. Are you looking for distance, Speed, Spin? Under the current golf ball construction there are 2 layer, 3 layer and 4 layer golf balls. Meaning a core internal and a outer layer, verse core layer, inner skin layer and outer layer. Each design of the golf ball effects the way the ball comes off the club face.

Core layer technology

In recent years, the core technology of the golf ball has improved. Each OEM makes its own claims about the technology and how the ball plays. The compression rate on most golf balls and core layer are also different. Each year always seems to be improved from the last year. Finding the right compression for your playing style will greatly help you. I find a soft feel ball when I hit with the club face tends to be the way I go. Somewhere between 80-95 is where I like to be.

Here are a few balls that I have personally tested and results.

Callaway Supersoft

I have used each of these balls extensively. I get better performance with the Srixon Q-Star and Maxfli Tour then I do from the Callaway Supersoft. However, the Callaway Supersoft only has a few yard difference from the other two balls. I have also used the Taylormade Speedsoft. It is a 2 layer soft compression ball. I had great experience with it.

Other Golf Balls I regularly use on course.

Bridgestone Tour RXS, Titlist ProV1, Taylormade TP5, Callaway Chrome Tour. As you can see from these I have used many off-brand and name brand balls. Each of these balls has a different spin and flight. It can take a while to find the right golf ball to fit you. Do not hesitate to test a few bands of high-end and low end balls.

What Am I using for 2025

I have played with the multiple balls above. I am trying to see which ball is best for my courses. I am also considering my swing and distance. For the rest of the year, I am going to settle on using the new Srixon Q-Star Ultispeed. With a 3 layer build, 84 compression, Ionomer outer layer. I feel like this ball is going to be the middle ground for each category I am looking for.
